№ When it goes wrong · common product mistakes

Common product photo prompt mistakes

Most weak product edits trace back to a few recurring mistakes in your prompt for product photography. The common cases and the short fixes that recover them:

Label text drifted or changed
The model can re-draw printed words. Re-state the preserve clause for label text, font, and proportions, then check the words letter by letter against the source — do not assume tiny text held.
Background looks fake or unlit
Add a relight instruction so the new scene’s light and colour temperature reach the product, plus a soft, believable contact shadow to ground it on the surface.
Product shape or proportions distorted
Name proportions as a hard constraint: “Keep the product’s exact shape and proportions; change only the scene and lighting.”
Invented a feature the product does not have
The model can add a strap, logo, or texture that was never there. Constrain it to the source artwork and re-check the result against the real product before publishing.
Listing shot fails the marketplace rules
A clean white frame is not automatic compliance. Treat the output as a draft and verify it against each marketplace’s own image requirements before you list it.

№ FAQ · Product photography prompts · frequently asked

Product photography prompts — frequently asked

Can these prompts make a real white-background listing photo?

These product photography prompts can produce a clean white-background image, but treat it as a draft. The model generates a new picture rather than masking your original, so edges, reflections, and small details can shift.

Before listing, verify the result against the marketplace’s own image rules. A white frame is not the same as marketplace approval.

How do I keep the product label text unchanged?

Add an explicit preserve clause: “Keep the label text, font, packaging colour, and product proportions exactly as in the source photo. Do not substitute fonts or invent words.”

Then re-read the output letter by letter — the model can still drift on small text. The label-preservation prompts above include a follow-up correction for when this happens. This reduces drift; it does not guarantee perfect label preservation.

Will the model invent product features that are not there?

It can. The image model fills in detail based on what it learned, so it may add a strap, a logo, a texture, or a colour that your product does not actually have.

Constrain the prompt to the source artwork, and always check the result against the real product. Do not publish an image that shows a feature the product does not have.

Do I need ChatGPT, or do these prompts work in other models?

This page is model-agnostic — the prompt structure carries across image models. The MVP examples use ChatGPT image editing, but the same shape works elsewhere.

Describe the product and scene, list what to preserve (label, proportions, colour), and add a follow-up correction step for any detail that drifts.
